Philippines Supreme Court: Homosexuality Is Not "Immoral"
Other than the Vatican City, the very Roman Catholic Philippines is the only nation with no legal provision for divorce. So Filipinos in dysfunctional marriages must either merely separate or get a legal annulment.
The Inquirer News reports that Judge Eliseo Campos sought an annulment from the Court on the grounds that his wife had engaged in several affairs with other men. As part of the record, Campos noted that he didn’t object to his wife’s affairs because he’s gay. His wife denied the affairs and countered that Campos wasn’t gay because he had been married to her and fathered a child with her. According to her, he was dishonest about being gay, and immoral for being gay!
The Philippines Supreme Court scientifically argued that being married and having children (socially-determined behaviors) are not proof of heterosexuality (sexual orientation). And the Court slapped down the silly superstition of the Catholic Church by arguing that homosexuality was not, in itself, “immoral.”
